Top Five Tips for Organizing your Drawers this Winter

We’ve all been there, the drawers are overflowing and yet you’ve got nothing to wear, you can’t find those particular socks, nothing seems to match and it feels like there’s never enough space.
1. Sort and declutter

Empty drawers and assess your items, bring those clothes out of storage and gather all your items in one place. It’s daunting but a worthwhile exercise to see everything together, then to start sorting what you wear and what you do not. It requires some honesty to let go of those things that you’ve kept, promising yourself you’ll wear them sometime, but it’s worth it.
This a daunting task one deserving of its own article. But, a good way to start is to simply have a keep and don’t keep pile and from there split the seasonal items and finally narrowing it down to clothing type i.e – socks.
2. Use folding techniques for visibility

There are a range of different folding techniques to improve visibility and organization whilst maximizing storage. There is no one size-fits-all solution but here is a popular technique to research and try out:

This method is especially effective for sweaters, thermals and leggings, bulkier items them can get buried beneath one another and forgotten about.
3. Assign each drawer a purpose
Keep each drawer separate, and assign a specific purpose to each space to maximize organization and make tidying and maintenance easier, pair items with each other depending on frequent use.
If needed print out labels to help yourself remember where everything goes – or draw out a plan like the one below to help organize your drawers.

4. Install drawer organizers or dividers

There are a myriad of options for drawer organizers or dividers to help separate individual spaces to make keeping different items organized in the same space easier. One of the most accessible and inexpensive places to find these organizers is Kmart – there are a range of easy to use, inexpensive and flexible drawer organizers.
5. Rotate seasonal items

Seperate your wardrobes depending on the season, keep your less-frequently used items for the season in designated bins or containers, still within reach but without cluttering the day to day items. A good space for these is underbed storage, whether it be built-in drawers or containers.
Make sure to label the containers well, and keep them as organized as possible, to make finding a specific item as easy as possible. It’s more work in the beginning but makes all the difference later when you can pinpoint that specific cap later without having to up-end your entire warbrobe.
